Another school year has begun and I am pleased to have your child in my class! We are in Room 26 and I anticipate a memorable year.

Expectations: Students are expected to be on their best behavior. They need to come to class prepared, to be respectful to others, to raise their hand, and to obey school and classroom rules.

Appropriate behavior will be encouraged and positively reinforced with praise, privileges, parent contact, and recognition from staff, peers, and the school community.

Inappropriate behavior will have immediate consequences including but not limited to: loss of recess and privileges, parent contact, conference with teacher and/or administrator, referral, and in extreme cases, possible suspension. The Parent Handbook and the Student Conduct Code   discuss these issues in detail.

 Supplies

Our school is fortunate in that it furnishes most of the items your student needs. I encourage families to spend their supply budget on what the student needs at home to be successful with assignments.

I will provide one homework and Spelling folder. If the folders are lost, the student is required to bring one from home. Please do not purchase Trapper- keeper type notebooks. They simply do not fit in student desks. Notebook binders are also too large for our desks. Students are welcomed to keep them at home or in their backpacks.

Students should not use or bring ink or gel pens at school or on assignments.

Please do not purchase spiral bound notebooks. They make a huge mess in the classroom and for the same reason, please do not bring handheld pencil sharpeners.

Water bottles—optional. Please remember that water is the only item students may consume in class.

Tissue students use many boxes during the year.

Homework/assignments— The parent handbook discusses homework at length. Your child will have homework each day, except for Fridays. Homework is due the day after it is assigned, at the beginning of class. Homework is an extension of class requirements and assignments and must be completed in order for each child to have the opportunity to do work without the help of his/her classmates or teacher.

Thanks to the Fair Oaks Parent Teacher Club (have you joined? It’s free!) , all third through sixth grade students receive a homework planner. Parents should always check homework and sign the planner daily. If a child has three missing assignments, he or she may serve an after school detention.

Backpacks—Please help your student keep track of their belongings by making sure all backpacks, jackets, etc., are clearly labeled with his/her name. Toys, CD players, etc., do not belong at school. Students are often distracted by these items and fail to pay attention.

Ways you can help— You can help your children succeed by holding them accountable for their actions. You can aid them by making sure they get plenty of rest and nutritious foods.
